Meet Lou Lou, MA

Supervised by Mary Kuepper, LPC-S

Yes, indeed, Lou’s first name is the same as her last name! Please just call her Lou. Lou’s pronoun preferences are she/her/hers. Lou loves working with folks who identify as a part of the LGBTQ+ community. Her undergraduate work consisted of gender, race, and sexuality studies, and she values that your intersectional identity is unique to you. Lou is social justice-minded and believes that self-reflexivity is lifelong work. Your story helps shape your unique perspective, and your unique perspective helps shape your story. In her free time, Lou enjoys outdoor adventures (year round!), hammocking with a nonfiction book, gardening, and napping with her cats. She is a weight-lifter, a tattoo collector, an avid painter, and a creative, playful individual.

Education and Training

In March 2024, Lou graduated with her Master’s in Clinical Counseling and Art Therapy from Adler Graduate School in Minnetonka, Minnesota. She completed her graduate school internship at Art Lab Rx, a company that provides art therapy services to schools and in-patient treatment centers, as well as at a private practice. She also worked at Crescent Cove, a respite home for children with shortening life expectancy, where she worked with bereaved parents. Lou is a pre-licensed therapist working towards her LPC licensure and Art Therapy certification. Mary Kuepper, LPC-S, supervises her.

Lou also went through personality profiler training in the Spring of 2023. Similar to Myer’s Briggs Type Indicator, but deeper into the Jungian cognitive functions, personality profiling can help with navigating a better understanding of self and of our relationships with one another.

Experience

Lou had a variety of graduate school internship sites through her internship at Art Lab Rx. Lou worked on “Maggie,” the art bus, and helped facilitate group art therapy at a local Minneapolis community college, as well as a chemical health facility for women in recovery. She created art therapy directives for local Minnesota middle schools, worked with kiddos navigating neurodevelopmental disorders, and facilitated group art therapy with people experiencing houselessness at an intensive residential treatment services (IRTS) facility. Lou also worked at a private practice with individuals identifying as a part of the LGBTQ+ community, focusing on children and teens. Additionally, she facilitated group art therapy with bereaved parents at Crescent Cove, a respite and end of life care facility for youth experiencing shortened life expectancy. Lou has experience working with people across the lifespan, and is passionate about working with gender-diverse people, as well as children and adolescents, who dance to the beat of their own bold drum.

Counseling Perspective

Lou blends Narrative and Art Therapy in her practice. She believes we are massively shaped by the stories we tell ourselves, and the stories others tell us about ourselves. Working with Lou involves shifting these narratives and encouraging ourselves and others. Lou loves learning about the latest neuroscience research and is aware of how art is a powerful tool for healing the brain. While art is often a part of working with Lou, no artistic expertise is necessary, and art does not have to be a part of the therapeutic process, as she is also trained in traditional talk therapy. Lou is collaborative, forthright, and comfortable with dark places and unfiltered language. She is a playful person and, therefore, a playful therapist. Work with Lou is deeply rooted in authenticity, creating a space for people to explore and experience unconditional positive regard. She values you and enjoys being present with you as you discover ways to thrive.
