About Amber Deere, PMHNP

Amber Deere is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who has spent nearly her entire life caring for others. She began working in healthcare as a certified nursing assistant at just 15 years old and steadily worked her way through roles as an LPN and RN before becoming a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in 2018. Amber believes meaningful care begins with listening and meeting people exactly where they are.

Originally from a small farming community in northwest Minnesota, Amber never imagined she would one day call Alaska home. After relocating with her family, she quickly fell in love with Alaska’s rugged beauty and independent spirit. Outside of work, Amber enjoys spending time with her family, getting outdoors, cheering on her boys at hockey and baseball, and tackling the occasional baking project.

EDUCATION & TRAINING

Amber earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Nursing from the University of North Dakota and is licensed to practice in Alaska, Minnesota, and North Dakota. Since becoming a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in 2018, she has worked across community mental health settings and rural clinics, treating a wide range of psychiatric concerns.

Amber sees clients ages 6 and up and has experience supporting children, adolescents, and adults navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood disorders, trauma-related concerns, and other mental health challenges. She offers both in-person appointments in Wasilla and virtual care for added flexibility.

COUNSELING PERSPECTIVE

Amber believes mental healthcare works best as a collaborative process, combining clinical expertise with each client’s lived experience to make thoughtful treatment decisions together. She takes a holistic approach to care and sees medication as just one piece of the puzzle. While psychiatric medications can be incredibly helpful in reducing symptoms and improving day-to-day functioning, her broader goal is helping clients build fuller, healthier lives.

Clients working with Amber can expect a provider who is approachable, down-to-earth, and easy to talk to. She believes mental healthcare should not feel cold, intimidating, or impersonal, and strives to create a space where clients feel comfortable being honest about what they are experiencing. Above all, Amber believes meaningful change is possible and that there is always a path forward.
