About Kristen Allton, LPC
Kristen has worked in the mental health field for over 16 years, supporting children, adolescents, young adults, and families across both school and private practice settings. She is passionate about helping clients navigate life’s challenges with greater understanding, confidence, and support. Kristen has extensive experience working with ADHD, Autism, anxiety, depression, trauma, emotional regulation, and identity exploration, including support for LGBTQ+ clients.
Outside of work, Kristen enjoys exploring the Alaskan outdoors with her husband and two children. On her days off, you can often find her backcountry skiing, backpacking, kayaking, rafting, or out on the trails.
EDUCATION & TRAINING
Kristen earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, with a minor in Business, from Colorado State University in 2008. She later completed her Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in School Psychology at the University of Northern Colorado in 2011.
She is both a Nationally Certified School Psychologist and a Licensed Professional Counselor. In addition to her formal education, Kristen has received training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Neurofeedback, and Love and Logic parenting approaches. Her work integrates evidence-based interventions with a practical, individualized approach to care.
Experience
Much of Kristen’s professional experience has centered around supporting children and families within school and community settings. Over the years, she has provided counseling services, crisis support, behavioral intervention, parenting guidance, and both individual and group therapy. Her background in school psychology gives her a strong understanding of emotional, behavioral, academic, and developmental challenges, particularly for neurodivergent children and adolescents.
In addition to her work in schools, Kristen has experience providing therapy and neurofeedback services in private practice settings for children, adolescents, and young adults. She enjoys helping clients better understand themselves, strengthen emotional regulation, and build skills that support success across different areas of life.
COUNSELING PERSPECTIVE
Kristen believes therapy should feel collaborative, supportive, and tailored to the individual sitting in front of her. She understands that no single approach works for everyone and values building a strong therapeutic relationship where clients feel safe, understood, and empowered to grow.
Her style is flexible and integrative, drawing from approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). Kristen also incorporates Neurofeedback into her work when appropriate, helping clients strengthen regulation and better understand how their brains and bodies respond to stress.
She values working closely with families and support systems and believes meaningful change happens both inside and outside the therapy room. Her goal is for clients to leave therapy feeling more capable, connected, and confident in navigating life’s challenges.
