OCD Medication Management in Wasilla, AK

Living with obsessive compulsive disorder can feel confusing, exhausting, and isolating. Intrusive thoughts may appear suddenly and feel impossible to ignore. Compulsions or mental rituals can take up hours of the day, even when you know they do not truly bring relief. Many people with OCD describe feeling trapped in cycles of anxiety, doubt, and self blame, often working hard in therapy and still feeling stuck.

At Mat-Su Mental Health, we offer OCD medication management as a supportive layer of care, designed to work alongside counseling and evidence based treatment for OCD. Our goal is not to change who you are or silence your thoughts, but to help reduce the intensity and frequency of obsessive thinking and compulsive urges so treatment feels more effective and daily life feels more manageable and less overwhelming.

OCD Medication Support for Adults

Many adults live with obsessive compulsive disorder for years before considering medication support. You may be managing work, relationships, parenting, or major life transitions while quietly coping with intrusive thoughts, mental rituals, or compulsions that take up far more energy than others realize. OCD often comes with a strong sense of responsibility, self doubt, or fear of getting things wrong, which can make it especially exhausting to carry alone.

Medication support may be helpful for adults who:

  • Experience persistent intrusive thoughts that feel distressing or hard to dismiss

  • Feel driven to perform compulsions or mental rituals to reduce anxiety or uncertainty

  • Struggle with constant doubt, checking, reassurance seeking, or rumination

  • Notice OCD interfering with focus, sleep, relationships, or daily routines

  • Are engaged in therapy, including ERP or other OCD focused treatment, and want additional support

Medication is not a shortcut or a replacement for therapy. For many adults with OCD, medication can help reduce the intensity of obsessive thoughts and compulsive urges, creating enough space to engage more fully in therapy and apply coping strategies with greater consistency.

ODC Medication Support for Children and Teens

Obsessive compulsive disorder can look very different in children and teens than it does in adults. OCD may show up as repeated questions, constant reassurance seeking, rigid routines, intense fears, or behaviors that seem driven by a need for certainty or things feeling “just right.” For parents and caregivers, it can be hard to know when these behaviors move beyond typical developmental worries and into something that needs additional support.

Medication support may be helpful for children and teens who:

  • Experience frequent intrusive thoughts or fears that cause significant distress

  • Engage in compulsive behaviors or mental rituals to reduce anxiet

  • Struggle with reassurance seeking, checking, or avoidance that interferes with daily life

  • Feel overwhelmed despite therapy, school supports, and home strategies

  • Are already engaged in counseling, including OCD focused treatment, and need additional support

We work collaboratively with parents, caregivers, and therapists to support young people in developmentally appropriate ways. The goal of medication support is to reduce the intensity of obsessive thoughts and compulsive urges so children and teens can better access their strengths, engage in treatment, and build confidence in managing OCD over time.

What to Expect From Medication Oriented Appointments

Medication appointments are focused on understanding your experience, not just your symptoms. During your initial visit, your provider will take time to learn about your anxiety, medical history, current stressors, and how therapy is supporting you.

If medication is recommended, options are discussed clearly and collaboratively, including benefits, possible side effects, and what to expect over time. Follow-up appointments allow space to assess how medication is working and make adjustments gradually and thoughtfully.

We prioritize ongoing communication and shared decision-making at every step.

If OCD continues to feel overwhelming despite your efforts in therapy, medication support may be a helpful next step. We are here to explore options with care, respect, and collaboration.

Once you reach out, our on-boarding admin will contact you to gather information regarding your specific situation. They will explore with you what provider will likely best meet your needs, and support you in getting set up in our electronic health record.

Mat-Su Mental Health uses Simple Practice, a medical record and portal system that will allow for confidential and HIPAA compliant messaging that ensures your privacy. You will be sent a portal link that directs you to online documentation to be completed prior to your initial session.

This is a great time to ask any questions you might have. After all, where you go for support is your choice, and we want you to feel empowered to assess whether or not we are the right fit for you! Here at Mat-Su Mental Health, our providers believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is essential in the process of creating change. These initial conversations are important in assessing fit, as therapy is not “one size fits all.”

MSMH’s office is conveniently located in Wasilla. Feel free to arrive a few minutes prior to your scheduled session to grab a cup of tea and relax before meeting with your provider. We look forward to meeting you, and are honored you have chosen us to do this work alongside you.
