Jenn Hurtig, LCSW

Jenn has experience working across the lifespan, supporting clients navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, relational conflict, moral injury, and grief. Originally from Montana or Minnesota (depending on the day  you ask) Jenn moved to Alaska in 2022 where she and her family promptly found some mountains to temporarily lose themselves in. Jenn enjoys playing her trombone with the local community band and is always happy to talk about her latest read.

Education and Training

Jenn earned a Masters of Social Work from the University of Southern California in 2016 and a Bachelor's degree in History from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Alaska, specializing in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She is also trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, solution focused therapy, and EMDR.

Experience

Jenn's entire clinical career has been in community mental health. She began as a directing clinician on an intensive case management team, working with individuals facing significant mental health challenges, before transitioning to an outpatient clinic, where she served clients across the lifespan as they navigated complex challenges. Prior to working in a therapeutic setting, Jenn partnered with special operations forces and their families to promote wellness and resilience, experience that continues to shape her understanding of resilience and recovery.

Counseling Perspective

Jenn's first passion was history, and it left her with a lasting respect for how the stories we tell about ourselves shape who we become. She sees her work with clients as walking alongside them as they make sense of the chapters already written and take fuller ownership of where the story goes from here.

Her approach is person centered, trauma informed, and solution focused.  She meets clients where they are, without judgment, and works at a pace that feels manageable to them. Jenn pays close attention to the patterns clients have built to survive and cope, and helps them understand where those patterns came from so they have room to choose something new. That collaborative work, building insight, resilience, and healthier ways of coping, is at the center of how she practices.

Jenn draws from a variety of evidence based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR, mindfulness based interventions, psychoeducation, and solution focused therapy, tailoring treatment to help individuals and families build lives they feel are worth living.
